Traffic at the Library Intersection.....

I'll bet none of you see this as you are leaving the library in your area! Yes, I did have to do a "double take" as I met this truck at the four-way stop intersection next to the library yesterday. There was an old man driving with his horse saddled and tied to the side corner of his truck. Now, in the sophisticated East (Maryland) where my good buddy Jill lives, they exercise their horses around town by spending hours grooming them, dressing up in expensive riding attire, coordinating with neighbors to jump their fences and ride through their fields, feed the hounds, then set out on very proper and organized Fox Hunts. I am sure if this man lived back east, that is how he would exercise his horse. But out west, things like exercising your horse are very simplified. Just saddle them up, tie them to the truck and drive around town! This is just another reason why living in the boondocks is so cool. The poor driver probably wondered why some crazy lady in a jeep continued to follow him. But I just couldn't believe what I saw. The kids were even encouraging me to drive closer so they could see better. Oh, the excitement that we find in our town! They were planning how they could try this with our horses. Harrison was trying to figure out what we could use on the truck to tie them too. Cassidy suggested the golf cart.
I still remember how cool it was when I was visiting my Grandma & Grandpa Olson in Star Valley Wyoming, and her brother (Uncle Loraine) came to pick up a horse from their house. He drove up in an old truck very similar to the one in this picture, but it had high racks around the bed of it. I remember wondering how he was going to take the horse. But, all he did was drop the tailgate and cluck to the horse and it jumped right in. I remember how amazed I was. I thought those mountain/ranch horses could do ANYTHING. I think the horse in these pictures is probably the same way. So, think of me next time you leave your library. Do you see cars everywhere, rude people cutting you off, traffic lights and congestion? All though my library is old and small, I will keep what I find at the four way stop at the intersection outside the library. I love my Life in the Boondocks!
