Yesterday as I was browsing a few blogs, I noticed my friend Evvie had been "high school tagged" and was writing a little about her high school years. So I began to read and it caused me to reflect a little on my good ole' high school days. When I reached the bottom of the entry, my heart jumped into my throat.....Evvie tagged ME! Ah, er, um.....wow, I thought, do I actually have anything worth writing down that anyone would want to read? Hmmm, not sure. For me, my high school years were GREAT! But nothing out of the ordinary. So, feel free to skip this entry or don't feel guilty if you yawn your way through it. But here goes:
1. Did you date someone from your school? I went on dates with guys from my school, but I never had a serious boyfriend. I also dated a few guys who had already graduated. One date that was really fun was when my friend Charlotte's brother, John (who was in his early 20's), was going on a date but needed someone to double with him. His friend did not have a date, so we came up with a plan for John to set him up with me. Of course his friend had NO idea I was only 17 and still in high school. John and I had a hard time not laughing that night, but had a good laugh once we were home. It is funny how at that age I wanted to act and look older and now I don't want people to think I am older than my real age!
2. What kind of car did you drive? I never had my own car in high school so I was at the mercy of my friends or borrowing my parents car. If I was really lucky, I would get to drive my Dad's truck. Otherwise, it was the "family wagon", a brown and cream station wagon with really cool back seats that flipped up and faced each other. Luckily, when I was a senior, my Dad got a phone in his truck so I was required to drive it on the weekends. There were only two disadvantages. One, I never had any excuse to not tell my parents where I was or if my plans had changed. Two, the loud phone would rarely ring, but when it did it startled me so bad I would almost run off the road! I think now of how that has changed. I don't have that problem anymore.....I ALWAYS have a phone in the car and if it is not ringing, I am probably talking on it.
3. Did you pass your drivers license test on the first try? Are you kidding? Of course, I was used to driving a huge station wagon, so when I went for my driving test, I took the truck which was easier.
4. Were you a party animal? No, not really. I loved to be with my friends and was with them all the time but we never really did much to get into any trouble. We would usually just hang out at one of our houses and watch movies, play games or go swimming. We had sooooo much fun together.
5. Were you considered a flirt? I don't think so, but I liked making new friends.
6. Were you in band, orchestra or choir? Yes. My freshman year I was in choir and orchestra and the rest of the time I was in orchestra. I played the violin. We had a really good orchestra and it was super fun. We went to competitions in California and other state wide festivals. We had a lot of laughs and I have some great memories from those experiences.
7. Were you a nerd? Only when I was driving the "family wagon". :)
8. Were you on any varsity teams? No. I never played sports because I was always too busy riding my horse after school. I kind of wish I would have played volleyball because now that I have started playing, I am in love with the sport!
9. Did you get suspended/expelled? No, I never really got into much trouble. I did get called to the assistant principals office once. I thought I was getting busted because sometimes my friends and I would skip class and go lay out by the pool or just hang out away from school. So when I got into his office, I was so nervous, I started spilling my guts. He laughed when I was done and had a funny look on his face. He then told me that he called me to his office as a joke. My friend was asking me to one of the school dances and he had talked the assistant principal into calling me into his office to ask me for him. I spilled the beans a little too soon!
10. Can you still sing the fight song? No, I only remember about 1/4th of it.
11. Who were your favorite teachers? I can picture a few of my teachers but the only names I remember is Mr. Thomson the Orchestra director and Mr. White my geometry teacher.
12. Where did you sit during lunch? Usually at Kresten or Charlotte's house or Crazy Sub.
13. What is your school's full name? Westwood High School (Mesa, Arizona).
14. School's mascot and colors? Westwood Warriors and the colors were blue and orange.
15. If you could go back and do it again, would you? I enjoyed high school and I would love to see my friends from high school more. But, I love my life now so I would choose to keep things as they are.
16. Did you go to homecoming and with who? My first date was homecoming. It was a couple weeks after I turned 16. I went with Craig Calhoun, who was in my Spanish class and a real cutie so I was pretty excited.
17. Did you go to prom and who with? One of my best friends in high school was Kresten McGrath. We spent a lot of time together and would laugh and laugh and laugh. I went with him to Prom and it was one of the high lights of my high school years. I also went to Prom in Thatcher with my friend Jim Keith.
18. What do you remember most about graduation? I was happy to be finished with high school. I was sad that it was the last night our orchestra would play together. I was sad because my closest friends were leaving to go to BYU. I was excited because I was going to live and work with a horse trainer for the summer.
19. Where did you go senior skip day? I don't think we had this. I don't remember.
20. Were you in any clubs? National Honor Society.
21. Have you gained some weight since? No, my body's shape has changed, but I weigh less and am in better condition now then when I was in high school.
22. Are you planning on going to your reunions? I missed my last one because I was in Maryland visiting my close friend from college. Looking back, It probably would have been fun to go. But there were 900 kids in my graduating class so I just try to keep in touch with my closest friends.
23. Did you have a job while in high school? Yes, I had to work to pay for my horse. I cleaned houses, cleaned my Dad's office, and taught riding lessons to kids.
Are you awake??? There you go. A look through a small window into my high school years. Thanks for tagging me Evvie, it was fun reminiscing. Now, I tag Aribeth Brimhall, Layla Crosby and Monica Olson.

Oh yes, I can see it now! We would have been the best of friends in high school while we weren't getting in trouble! It wasn't boring, it was fun! I love getting to learn little known things about my friends. You were in orchestra-that's cool! Maybe we should design a drill around you. You could be on a platform playing your fiddle while we performed around you. Whatcha think?
