After many hours of practice, I finally had my first performance with the drill team at the Show Low 4th of July Rodeo. It was such a blast! I was not sure what to expect because I have never done anything like this before AND the horse I have been practicing with came up lame the day before. My only option was to ride another horse owned by someone on the drill team. Luckily, he is an awesome horse and we got along great because there is no warm up arena at the Showlow rodeo grounds where I could get used to him or practice the drill with him. He had never done it before and had no idea what maneuvers to expect next. I just had to go in the arena cold and COWGIRL UP! It was so fun and a real thrill galloping past the grandstand during our "hotlap" with the American Flag. My friend Amanda rides my horse Scooby in at the end of the drill during our hotlap with the Arizona Flag. He is great for this because he is fast and flashy and she comes in the arena galloping in the opposite direction then the rest of us. Tonight we perform at the Taylor Rodeo. I am starting to get a few butterflies because it is a bigger rodeo and I ride the new horse again who has only done the drill once (last night at the Showlow rodeo). Since Jeff will be there, I am hopping he can get a few pictures.
