More Trusses

I think we have now reached the infamous Snowflake spring. This is what people have warned us about since we moved here. Last year, I did not experience the fullness of it because a year ago at this time I was flat on my back with my foot up recovering from surgery on my Achilles tendon. I really could not attempt to go outside until the end of April and even then I could not spend much time out of bed, even with crutches. Yes, it does get windy in April and May. But the nice thing about it is most days it is only windy in the afternoon. It starts about 11:00 or so and dies back down around dusk. Isn't that weird? It very rarely is blowing at night or first thing in the morning (but sometimes it does happen and it is a real pain). So, whenever possible, we plan our schedule around it. I liken this to living in Queen Creek in the summer when we got up at 5am to get work or activities done before the severe afternoon heat. Or climates where it rains every afternoon. You just work around it. This is the point I am trying to get to...:) Due to the wind, we have to be very creative when setting our trusses. In perfect weather, they could be set in one day. Our framer (the most AWESOME in the world) is setting trusses from 6am to 10am in the morning on Monday, Wednesday and Friday this week. The remainder of the time they are nailing parts of the truss roof and floor so it is all very secure. My previous blog entry showed the west side trusses being installed and this one is the east side. Friday at 6am they will set the middle section. The front section of the porch has also been completed and I think it looks great. He matched the arch perfectly with the arched window going over the front door. It looks really cool! This part of our house will be an unfinished "bonus" room. Someday, after the kids are older, we are going to finish it and make it into a large rec room. I envision lots of fun parties there in the future!
